Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd has joined Olympique de Marseille on a long-term contract running until the summer of 2030. The deal, reported to be around €23 million, was finalised today just before the summer transfer window closes.

Aguerd arrived in Marseille, accompanied by a small group of club officials. Mehdi Benatia, Marseille’s sporting director, played a key role in persuading the 29-year-old to make the move.
The signing comes after Marseille had already strengthened their defence with CJ Egan-Riley and Facundo Medina earlier in the window. But with the Champions League looming, the club wanted an experienced presence at the heart of the defence – and Aguerd fits the bill.
After a successful season at Real Sociedad, the Moroccan international returned briefly to West Ham. Talks with Marseille had started earlier in the summer but stalled amid competition from other clubs, including Sunderland. Now, he is set to bring experience and stability to Roberto De Zerbi’s side.
Aguerd played 36 matches for Sociedad last season and has 55 caps for Morocco. After previous spells at Dijon and Rennes, he returns to Ligue 1, this time ready to make his mark at the Vélodrome in front of raucous, fiery supporters.
