Omar El Hilali has emerged as a hot prospect in the last day of the transfer window, with Nottingham Forest reportedly keen to sign the Espanyol right-back.
According to Spanish outlet La Grada Online, Forest have tabled an €11 million offer plus add-ons. However, Espanyol appear unbothered, citing the player’s €25 million release clause – far above the €15 million figure previously assumed.
“This puts the club in a position of strength,” said Espanyol’s sporting director Fran Garagarza. “We are not considering negotiating down or allowing a rushed exit for any of our key players. Omar is one of those players.”
El Hilali is contracted to Espanyol until 2027 and has become a mainstay under Manolo González. His rapid development and consistent performances have made him indispensable in defence, and the club sees him as a cornerstone for both present and future campaigns.
The club is aware his current salary may no longer match his performances. A contract review could be on the cards to secure his long-term commitment and reflect his value.
El Hilali has so far made it clear his priority is to remain at Espanyol.
