Rabat – The Royal Navy and the US Navy carried out a joint naval exercise from August 17 to 31 at the Port of Casablanca, the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) announced on Monday.
In a statement posted on X, the FAR said: “The Royal Navy, in partnership with the US Navy, organized a joint exercise from August 17 to 31, 2025, at the Port of Casablanca to hone the skills of both parties’ crews in hydrographic surveying and technical studies related to port facilities.”
Over two weeks, Moroccan and American crews carried out operations at sea to map the waters around Casablanca with modern hydrographic equipment.
Divers from both sides also inspected underwater sections of port facilities to test security measures. Onshore, sailors attended technical workshops aimed at strengthening expertise and coordination.
The exercise ended with a joint evaluation session, giving crews the chance to assess results and exchange technical know-how.
Military cooperation between Morocco and the US has steadily deepened, particularly at sea.
Morocco will take part in the 66th edition of UNITAS, the world’s oldest multinational maritime exercise, from September 15 to October 6.
The exercise will involve 25 allied and partner nations, including the US, France, Italy, and Spain, with operations across Florida, Virginia, and North Carolina.
Nearly 8,000 personnel, along with dozens of ships, submarines, and aircraft, will participate in one of the largest naval training events in recent years.
For Morocco, UNITAS 2025 offers a chance to modernize its navy, deepen interoperability with international forces, and engage in advanced scenarios such as amphibious operations, live-fire drills, cyber defense, and maritime rescue.
The exercise also elevates Morocco’s role as a reliable partner in regional and global maritime security.
