A 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck at dawn on Wednesday, September 3, about 31 kilometers south of Amizmiz in the Marrakech-Safi region.
The quake took place at 4:25 a.m. local time at a depth of nearly 13 kilometers.
Its force was felt most strongly in areas close to the epicenter, with residents in parts of Al Haouz and Marrakech reporting a sudden jolt that disrupted the stillness of the night.
So far, authorities have not confirmed any casualties or material losses.
But, for many families in the region, the tremor did more than disturb their sleep. It revived memories of the catastrophic earthquake of September 2023, which devastated Al Haouz, killed thousands, and left lasting scars on the community.
The quake struck only days before September 8, the second anniversary of that tragedy, intensifying unease among locals who continue to live with the trauma of loss and the constant possibility of aftershocks.
Authorities remain on alert, but officials have not issued evacuation warnings or any further instructions.
