Rabat – Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) inaugurated on Monday in New York its new US Global Hub. The inauguration of the new hub aims to connect African talent and research ecosystems with academic, entrepreneurial, and industrial partners worldwide.
This will be the second hub, following the first, which is in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The initiative aims to strengthen existing collaborations and forge new ones with American universities and institutions.
It also seeks to create opportunities for joint research projects and academic exchanges, the university said in a statement today.
UM6P President Hicham El Habti commented on the new inauguration, emphasizing that the initiative reflects the university’s commitment to building sustainable collaboration between Africa and the global innovation ecosystems.
El Habti indicated that the hub serves as a two-way bridge to allow African startups and entrepreneurs access to venture capital, technology networks, as well as industrial expertise in North America.
It also facilitates the adaptation and deployment of American innovations within African contexts, he said, citing the US as a living example of how universities can act as drivers of innovation.
The university president recalled UM6P’s partnerships with US institutions like the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Arizona State University, Stanford University, and Columbia Business School.
Director General of the US Global Hub Mehdi El Khatib also applauded the new inauguration as well as UM6P’s establishment in the US.
He said this reflects the university’s commitment to building more bridges that benefit African students, researchers, and entrepreneurs.
The goal is to also design joint research projects on different topics that contribute to Africa’s sustainable development, with the hub serving as a platform to train and connect African startups with the US innovation ecosystem and entrepreneurship.
Morocco’s ambassador to the US, Youssef Amrani, attended the inauguration of the new UM6P hub in New York, saying that the new platform will enable the creation of an open and diversified innovation ecosystem.
“This is not just a university initiative, but also an investment in human capital and collaboration,” he said.
