Rabat – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz have defended Israel’s air strikes on the Qatari capital Doha, calling the attack “completely justified.”
Israel carried out air strikes on Doha today targeting Hamas leaders.
In a joint statement, the two leaders linked the assault to the shooting in East Jerusalem that killed six Israelis on Sunday. They said the strikes targeted Hamas leaders responsible for the October 7 attack and ongoing operations against Israel.
The air raids hit a residential neighborhood in Doha, drawing sharp condemnation. Qatar’s Foreign Ministry denounced the action as a “criminal attack” and a “flagrant violation of all international laws and norms.”
The Interior Ministry confirmed the strikes targeted what Israel described as “Hamas residential headquarters,” but said the situation was now safe.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the attack as a violation of Qatar’s sovereignty, urging all sides to focus on achieving a ceasefire in Gaza.
Governments across the region, including Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, and Morocco, also criticized Israel’s actions.
Jordan called it a “serious threat to the security of the Qatari people,” while Iraq and the Maldives described the strikes as “cowardly.”
There have been no official reports of casualties, and the fate of the Hamas delegation meant to meet in Doha remains unclear.
