Rabat – US President Donald Trump announced today that security services took a suspect into custody for his alleged involvement in the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at a Utah university.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump said, “I think we have him,” adding that a person close to the suspect turned him in.
The informer “was involved with law enforcement, but was a person of faith, a minister, and brought him [Kirk’s killer] to a US Marshal who was fantastic,” Trump said.
Trump, who admired Kirk and described him as “a son,” says US law enforcement has a “high degree of certainty we have him in custody,” after a days-long manhunt.
Trump cannot yet confirm the suspect is truly Kirk’s killer; “I’m always subject to being corrected.”
On Wednesday, an unidentified perpetrator shot Kirk dead at Utah Valley University during a campus political debate.
Kirk, 31, was a close ally of the White House, a close friend of Trump and other Oval Office executives.
Kirk was a contentious figure for many. His remarks on the Civil Rights Act of 1965 ( which insinuated that it was a “huge mistake”), gun violence, immigration, and his opposition to Juneteenth as a federal holiday, are a few of his controversial opinions that sparked national debate.
