Rabat – The international community is still reeling over Israel’s relentless campaign, including its latest unprecedented strike on Qatar earlier this week.
Earlier today, the UAE Foreign Affairs Ministry announced that it had summoned the deputy Israeli ambassador in the Gulf country over Israel’s attacks on the Hamas leadership in their Doha headquarters.
The UAE strongly condemns the Israeli attack and will not accept the continuation of such behavior, the Emirati ministry stressed in a statement, saying the Israeli ambassador was told that the provocative strike on Doha “solidifies a situation that is unacceptable and cannot be overlooked.”
The attack fueled fears of more escalation in the region, especially that Qatar has been playing a crucial role as a mediator in the Gaza ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas.
According to the Times of Israel, the UAE is reportedly considering a request from Qatar to close its embassy in Tel Aviv.
Later this week, Doha will host an emergency summit to discuss the situation following the Israeli attack.
Meanwhile, the UN Security Council met on Thursday in an emergency gathering to discuss and condemn both Israel’s attack on Doha and its ongoing genocidal campaign in Gaza.
A statement backed by all Security Council members, including the US, notably underscored the importance of de-escalation, expressing solidarity with Qatar.
Many international news outlets have interpreted the US’ support for the UN statement as a welcome new development, citing President Donald Trump’s unusually blunt criticism of America’s “special ally” in the Middle East.
Earlier this week, Trump said that Israel’s attack on Qatar was a deplorable incident that did not advance either Israel or America’s goals in the region.
