Soufiane El Bakkali isn’t done yet at the World Athletics Championships. After claiming silver in the 3000m steeplechase, the Moroccan star will take on the 5000m in Brussels.

El Bakkali, who set a personal best of 12:55.49 earlier this year in Paris, is listed in the opening heat on Friday, September 19, at midday. He’ll face Olympic 1500m champion Cole Hocker but has avoided the tougher second heat, which includes Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Ronald Kwemoi and Grant Fisher – the medallists from Paris 2024.
The equation is simple: the first eight runners from each heat go through to Sunday’s final, scheduled for 11:47.
