Rabat – Casablanca police have arrested a taxi driver after a recent video by British YouTuber James Humble, known online as Mr. Humble, showed him claiming poor treatment by the driver in the city.
Mr. Humble, who has a large following on YouTube and often posts about Morocco and sporting events, said the driver refused to take him and demanded an inflated fare.
The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said that they opened a judicial investigation following a video in which a foreign tourist claimed to have been treated poorly and unprofessionally by a taxi driver in the city.
Authorities noted that the tourist had not filed an official complaint before the police began their inquiry.
Police in the Ain Sebaa – Hay Mohammadi district quickly identified the taxi and arrested the driver. The driver is now under judicial investigation supervised by the public prosecutor to clarify all circumstances of the incident.
Mr. Humble captioned his video: “Something has to be done about this, especially with the African Cup and World Cup coming to Morocco!” The clip has sparked concern over unfair taxi practices toward tourists, particularly ahead of major international events in Morocco.
Many Moroccans have been expressing concerns about transportation issues ahead of major tournaments like the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2030 World Cup.
Complaints include the limited availability and rising prices of taxis, as well as challenges with ride-sharing apps like InDrive and Careem, which operate in a legal grey area in Morocco.
Citizens and online commentators are urging authorities to ensure smoother, fairer, and safer transport services for both locals and visitors. Many emphasized the importance of good management as Morocco prepares to host high-profile sporting events.
