Rabat – Prince Hicham Alaoui has announced today his decision to pursue legal action against Moroccan activist Mohamed Reda Taoujni.
This followed the release of a video by Taoujni on YouTube on September 11, which the Moroccan prince described as defamatory and damaging to his reputation.
In a statement published on his Facebook page, Alaoui explained that the video contained “accusations and expressions that offend honor and dignity.”
“I have decided, as a citizen, to resort to the judiciary to demand my right to fairness as provided by law,” the prince added.
The statement confirmed that legal procedures are already underway, with renowned lawyer Abderrahim Jamai filing a formal complaint on Alaoui’s behalf before the competent judicial authorities.
At the same time, Alaoui stressed his unwavering belief in the principles of freedom of opinion and expression.
“I renew my deep faith in freedom of opinion and expression, as a cornerstone for entrenching the values of plurality and openness, provided that it is exercised away from methods of defamation,” he said.
He further expressed appreciation for the role of ethical journalism, noting: “I highly value the efforts of women and men of the press who remain committed to professional ethics and its noble values.”
