Rabat – The National Union of Moroccan Women has initiated comprehensive support measures for a woman named Imane, who suffered severe facial disfigurement in what officials describe as an inhumane assault in the city of Taza.

The intervention comes under direct orders from Princess Lalla Maryam, who serves as president of the National Union of Moroccan Women, reflecting the gravity with which Moroccan authorities are treating this case.

Imane has begun a specialized, gradual treatment protocol at a plastic surgery clinic in Rabat, aimed at repairing the extensive facial damage caused by the attack.

The treatment represents part of a broader rehabilitation effort designed to address both the physical and psychological trauma resulting from the assault.

The case has drawn significant attention due to the severity of the disfigurement, prompting immediate action from Morocco’s leading women’s advocacy organization.

The victim had been assaulted by her ex-husband on a public street in the city of Taza.

The assault caused serious injuries to her face and hand, which required her to be taken to hospital for treatment.

The police in the city arrested the perpetrator of this brutal assault.

The case also includes a tragic story when the perpetrator raped the victim, resulting in pregnancy.

The victim was later forced to marry the rapist in order to register the child in the civil registry, but she has been requesting a divorce after continued humiliation and abuse.

Six months later the ex-husband allegedly returned to haunt her life, harassing her and culminating in this latest violent attack.

Imane’s story touched many Moroccans, questioning how institutional gaps and outdated laws expose women to continuous harm, even when they seek to escape.
