Rabat – Moroccan international Sofiane Diop, who plays for French club Nice, earned a spot in French newspaper L’Équipe’s Team of the Week for Matchday 7 of Ligue 1, France’s top-tier football league.
Diop secured this coveted spot following his standout performance against his former club Monaco, where he impressed by scoring twice and helping Nice secure a 2–2 draw.
The Moroccan international netted his goals in the 29th and 42nd minutes, bringing his season tally to three league goals.
The 25-year-old received a high rating of 8/10 from L’Équipe for his impressive performance, with Nice moving up to 8 points in 12th place while Monaco remained fifth with 13 points.
Sofiane Diop joined Nice in the summer of 2022 from Monaco, signing a five-year deal. He has since steadily grown into a key figure in Nice’s midfield, cementing his reputation known for his technical ability and attacking instincts.
Diop has made over 50 appearances in Ligue 1 since his arrival, scoring 11 goals and providing 11 assists.
His performances have earned praise for consistency, and he’s become one of the club’s most reliable creative players.
His recent brace against Monaco, his former club, was a standout moment, underlining his maturity and impact in big matches.
