Rabat – Moroccan security and customs officers at the Tangier Med Port foiled an international drug trafficking attempt today, seizing a shipment of 21,142 psychotropic pills concealed inside children’s toys.
The operation was carried out after security personnel, assisted by trained sniffer dogs, inspected a foreign-registered utility vehicle arriving on a ferry from a Spanish port.
The inspection led to the discovery of thousands of pills carefully hidden in toy packages, intended to disguise the illegal cargo.
Authorities arrested the driver, a Moroccan national, who was placed in custody under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office.
Investigations are underway to determine the extent of the network’s operations and its possible international links.
The operation forms part of Morocco’s ongoing efforts to combat cross-border crime, particularly the trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic substances.
