Rabat – King Mohammed VI will preside over the opening of the first session of the fifth legislative year of Morocco’s 11th Legislature on Friday, at the Parliament in Rabat.
According to a statement from the Ministry of the Royal Household, Protocol, and Chancellery, the speech will address Parliament members and will be broadcast live on radio and television starting at 4:30 p.m.
King Mohammed VI’s parliament speeches address both positive aspects and challenges facing Morocco.
In 2024, King Mohammed VI dedicated his speech to Morocco’s diplomatic momentum over the country’s Western Sahara cause. The monarch thanked international partners, including France, for its newfound position recognizing Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces in Western Sahara.
He also recalled the support of Arab and African countries for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan and its territorial integrity, as well as the US’ recognition of the country’s sovereignty over its southern provinces.
“I wish to express my deep appreciation to all our friends and partners for supporting Morocco’s foremost cause,” the monarch said in his 2024 parliament speech.
In the speech, the monarch emphasized the importance of maintaining vigilance to consolidate Morocco’s position and publicize the country’s cause.
This year, many are anticipating tomorrow’s speech to address the recent wave of protests across Morocco.
Protesters have been demanding reforms in healthcare, education, and the resignation of Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch.
The protests are led by youth movements, including GenZ212.
