Rabat – Morocco’s U-20 national team is now the only remaining representative of Arab and African nations at the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, following the elimination of Nigeria and South Africa in the Round of 16.
Nigeria exited the tournament after a heavy 4–0 defeat to Argentina, while South Africa were knocked out by Colombia with a 3–1 loss.
The Atlas Cubs will face a tough challenge against South Korea in the Round of 16, with the match scheduled for early Friday at midnight Moroccan time, at El Teniente Stadium.
Led by Yassine Jassim, the Moroccan squad aims to build on their strong group stage performance and secure a spot in the quarterfinals, keeping Arab and African hopes alive in the global competition.
As the last Arab and African team standing, Morocco has drawn attention from fans across the region, who are hoping the team can go as far as possible in the tournament.
Morocco impressed in the group stage of the U-20 World Cup in Chile, finishing top of their group with two wins and one loss.Â
They opened the tournament with a 2–0 victory over Spain, followed by a 2–1 win against Brazil, and closed the group with a 1-0 loss against Mexico.Â
The Atlas Cubs showed strong defensive organization and finishing, scoring four goals and conceding just two.
