Marrakech – AtlantaSanad Assurance has unveiled the first insurance coverage dedicated to electric scooter riders in Morocco. The announcement, made on Wednesday, aims to enhance safety for both riders and third parties while supporting the growth of eco-friendly urban transportation options.
The new insurance offering covers both material and bodily damages caused to others. It also provides additional rider protection, including medical, surgical and hospitalization expenses, as well as capital payment in case of death or permanent disability following an accident.
The product targets individuals using electric scooters or draisines with speeds not exceeding 25 km/h. The insurance comes in several packages, ranging from basic Civil Liability to more comprehensive options that incorporate Defense and Recourse guarantees and Rider Protection to meet different user needs.
This launch comes as electric scooters become increasingly common in major Moroccan cities. The initiative aligns with AtlantaSanad’s ongoing strategy of digitalization, customer-focused service, and innovation in making insurance more accessible and responsive to modern client needs.
The timing is particularly relevant as Morocco moves toward regulating electric scooter usage. The National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) recently announced an upcoming decree that will specify usage rules for electric scooters in Morocco.
The new regulations will define applicable infractions, authorized circulation conditions and locations, as well as mandatory equipment for riders.
NARSA Director Benacer Boulaajoul noted that before 2010, the concept of scooters did not exist in the national legal framework, necessitating updates to legislation in response to evolving urban transport options.
The regulatory framework continues to evolve, with two new decrees expected soon, accompanied by ministerial decisions regarding vehicle registration and license plates.
Additionally, the Government Council approved a draft law on June 19, modifying the Highway Code to introduce new fines and vehicle classifications.
The draft introduces the concept of “personal motor displacement vehicle,” defined as a single-place device without a seat, equipped with handlebars, with speeds between 6 and 25 km/h.
AtlantaSanad Assurance was formed in 2020 through the merger of two historic companies, Atlanta and Sanad, under the Holmarcom Group. With over a century of expertise and more than 600 qualified employees, the company offers a wide range of life and non-life insurance products throughout Morocco’s 12 regions via a network exceeding 360 exclusive agents and 300 brokerage partners.
In September, AtlantaSanad also introduced Assia, Morocco’s first AI insurance assistant, designed to provide 24/7 customer service. Assia assists with various tasks, including auto accident claims, contract explanations, and advice on insurance products.
