Morocco’s historic contribution to global peacekeeping and its steadfast commitment to international stability were showcased on Tuesday in the Indian capital during the first United Nations Troop Contributing Countries Chiefs’ Conclave (UNTCC).

Speaking at a plenary session, Brigadier General Abdelkrim Nejjar, head of the Moroccan delegation, said the country’s participation in peacekeeping operations reflects a longstanding tradition of solidarity and service to global peace, in line with the directives of King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR).

He noted that Morocco has consistently responded to international calls to prevent conflict and restore peace under the auspices of the United Nations and through bilateral partnerships. The country’s engagement, he said, is grounded in constitutional principles that make peace and security core national values.

Recalling Morocco’s early involvement in global peace efforts, Nejjar pointed out that Moroccan soldiers participated in both World Wars, contributing to efforts to restore stability and end conflict. This tradition continues today through Morocco’s diplomatic and military action, focused on peaceful dispute resolution and respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.

For more than six decades, Morocco has deployed troops across Africa and continues to contribute to UN missions in other regions.

Addressing today’s peacekeeping challenges, Nejjar said the international community stands at a critical juncture, marked by increasingly complex operational environments. He called for more practical mandates, adaptable structures, and inclusive approaches to improve mission outcomes.

He also pointed to Morocco’s efforts in capacity-building, notably the creation – under the directives of King Mohammed VI – of the Peace Operations Training Center, which provides advanced instruction to military, police, and civilian personnel, both Moroccan and international, preparing them for work in multidimensional and challenging contexts.

Nejjar reaffirmed that Morocco remains a dedicated partner in the pursuit of lasting peace, acting with respect for host nations’ sovereignty and in accordance with realities on the ground. The Kingdom’s constant objective, he said, is to strengthen global stability, safeguard civilian populations, and promote a credible and effective multilateral framework.

The UNTCC, organized by the Indian Army, gathers more than 30 troop-contributing nations under the theme “The World Is One Family.”

The three-day conclave serves as a high-level platform to share best practices, deepen cooperation, and build common understanding around the evolving challenges of peacekeeping – including operational effectiveness, sustainable peace in complex environments, and the role of new technologies in improving mission readiness.
