Rabat – The Gallup World’s Emotional Health 2025 identified Morocco as one of the top countries that experiences the highest levels of reported anger globally in 2024.
The report, released in partnership with the World Health Summit, said that 39% of adults across the globe are more worried for “much of the previous day” in 2024.
The report also identified that over a third said they feel stressed.
“For nearly two decades, Gallup’s surveys in more than 140 countries, including 145,000 interviews in 144 countries and areas in 2024, have tracked daily emotions such as worry, anger, sadness, stress, and enjoyment,” the report reads.
By country, Gallup ranked Morocco 10th among the top 10 countries with the highest level of anger. The report says Morocco recorded that 37% of its adult population reported feeling anger, placing it in a tie with Iran for the tenth spot.
Chad tops the list with 47%, followed by Jordan with 46%, Armenia with 43%, Northern Cyprus with 42%, Iraq with 40%, Sierra Leone with 40%, Guinea with 39%, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo at 38%.
Palestine is ranked ninth.
“Just as emotions vary within populations, they also differ sharply across countries,” the report says, adding that reported daily experiences of anger and sadness in Chad were among the highest in the world.
This is unlike in Denmark, where nearly nine in 10 people say they were treated with respect the previous day. Large majorities in the same country reported “laughter and enjoyment each day.”
In addition to anger, worry is also a cause of concern in many countries, including Sierra Leone, which is topping the list with 67% of adults reporting worry.
Guinea is the second with 66%, followed by Malta and Rwanda with 61%, Chad with 60%, Burkina Faso and Mozambique with 59%, and Liberia and Mali with 50%. Benin and Venezuela are at the end of the list with 57% of adults reporting worry.
In the sadness section, Chad tops the list with 58% of adults reporting sadness, followed by Sierra Leone with 55%, Liberia with 51%, Guinea with 50%, Democratic Republic of Congo and Republic of Congo with 43%, Jordan with 42%, while Cambodia, Iran, Iraq, and Malawi report 41%.
In terms of the percentage of adults reporting physical pain, Sierra Leone tops the list with 70%, followed by Chad with 67%, Senegal with 61%, Guinea with 57%, Liberia and Niger with 56%, as well as Egypt at 55%.
Jordan and Mauritania report 54% each, and Benin and Iraq 53%.
List of countries reporting enjoyment includes Denmark with 93%, followed by Paraguay with 92%, Indonesia at 91%, Mexico with 90%, Guatemala with 88%, along with Iceland, Panama, and Uzbekistan, while Costa Rica reports 87%, and Chile and Malaysia with 86%.
In March, the World Happiness Index ranked Morocco in the 112th position worldwide.
The report, in collaboration with Gallub and the Oxford Center for Well-Being Research, shows Morocco’s ranking dropped five places compared to the previous year. The report released by UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network evaluates countries based on indicators like inequality, freedom, generosity, perception of corruption, and positive and negative emotions.
