Casablanca will host the next edition of the “10 KM International by WeCasablanca” on May 17, 2026, organizers announced on Wednesday.
Speaking at a press conference in Casablanca, Mohamed Jouahri, Director General of Casablanca Events & Animation, said that registration is now open for the 2026 race, which has become a major event on the African road-running calendar in less than a decade.
Regarding the course, Jouahri noted that only “very slight and minor adjustments” will be made compared to the 2025 edition, which took place on September 28.
The starting line will once again be set on Al Massira Al Khadra Boulevard, at the foot of the iconic Twin Center towers, before runners follow a route through some of the city’s most emblematic avenues.
Reflecting on the 2025 race, Jouahri hailed it as “a success on every level.” “Beyond the massive participation, with over 12,000 runners exceeding expectations, the event also delivered remarkable athletic performances,” he said.
He commended the efforts of public authorities, private partners, and the broader sporting community for ensuring the event’s success and for promoting a dynamic and modern image of Casablanca.
The 2025 edition marked a key milestone, being organized independently for the first time, separate from the Casablanca International Marathon. Jouahri emphasized that the “10 KM International by WeCasablanca” has now established itself as a standalone event, attracting an impressive lineup of Moroccan and international athletes in a highly competitive setting.
Since its first edition in 2017, the race has grown steadily, improving its technical, logistical, and media standards, making it a showcase of Moroccan expertise in sports event management and reinforcing Casablanca’s appeal as a leading sports destination.
Mustapha Benslimane, the race’s technical director, echoed Jouahri’s remarks, noting that the 2025 edition achieved “unprecedented success” with over 12,000 participants from 48 countries. He highlighted that the event has now become a benchmark for road races in both Morocco and Africa.
He also pointed to the steady improvement in athletic standards, with elite runners setting new records. “For the first time in Africa’s history, a time below 30 minutes was recorded in the women’s category,” he said. Moroccan runner Keltoum Bouasria also broke the national record in the Masters category with a time of 35 minutes flat, placing her fifth worldwide in her division.
Looking ahead to 2026, Benslimane said the goal is to “build on this momentum and further establish Casablanca as a stage of excellence for road-running specialists.” Organizers expect over 15,000 participants next year and even stronger athletic performances.
Organized by Casablanca Events & Animation in partnership with the Casablanca Commune, the “10 KM International by WeCasablanca” seeks not only to promote athletic excellence but also to strengthen Casablanca’s image as a global hub for urban sports.
Through this event, the city reaffirms its commitment to making sports a driver of urban vitality and a source of collective pride, while enhancing Casablanca’s national and international visibility.
