Rabat – The first-ever FIFA Women’s U17 World Cup to be held on African soil is underway and it’s kicking off this Friday with Morocco acting as the hosts and facing Brazil at Rabat’s Olympic Stadium Annex Sports Complex Prince Moulay Abdellah.

This Friday is going to be a huge night for women’s football in Africa with Morocco looking to make a big impression in front of their home crowd. Brazil will be hoping to shake off their latest disappointment after they were knocked out of the group stage in the Dominican Republic in last year’s edition of the World Cup.

Match details

  • Fixture: Morocco U17 vs Brazil U17
  • Competition: FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup 2025 (Group A)
  • Venue: Olympic Stadium Annex Sports Complex Prince Moulay Abdellah, Rabat
  • Date: Friday, 17 October 2025
  • Kick-off: 20h00 GMT+1

How & Where to watch

Every single match of the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup will be broadcast live and for free on FIFA+.

You’ll also be able to catch it on L’Equipe TV and LiveSoccerTV. And if you’d like to be there in the stands, tickets are still available to buy on FIFA.com.

Morocco U17 team news

Head coach Anwar Mghinia has named a 21-player squad blending local talents and academy standouts for Morocco’s second-ever U-17 Women’s World Cup appearance (after India 2022).

Defender Maissane Ferkous, who’s been one of the team’s leaders, had a lot to say ahead of kick-off : “It’s not every day that you get to play in a World Cup, especially when it’s in your own country. So we’re going to try to give it our all so that we have no regrets at the end. We know that Brazil is a great footballing nation, but we’ve prepared for this match and we’re still preparing. We know their playing system and we train every day to try to counter it. With a little work, we’ll get there.”

Morocco is planning to rely on good old-fashioned organization, discipline, and plenty of intensity in order to keep Brazil guessing and stop them from running wild.

The goal is to be the first host nation to get out of the group stages — a feat that none of the  previous eight countries who’ve hosted (New Zealand Trinidad & Tobago, Azerbaijan, Costa Rica, Jordan, Uruguay, India and the Dominican Republic) managed to pull off.

Brazil U17 team news

Brazil — with more experience at this level than most — arrive in Rabat as one of the most travelled teams in the whole tournament.

The Seleção are making their eighth U-17 Women’s World Cup appearance. Only Japan and New Zealand have made more appearances (nine each) and have reached quarter finals four times, most recently in 2022.

Forward Evelyn had a few words on her team’s prospects: “Let’s hope we play an excellent match and come away with the victory. We’re going to stay focused on our work and on what the coach asks of us. God willing, we’ll get this victory.”

Brazil has always been a team with attacking excellence and loads of confidence in their own ability, and under Simone Jatobá’s guidance they will try to impose their high-intensity style on the opposition from the off.

What to expect

The opening game in Rabat should be a spectacle, with Morocco feeding from the energy of the home crowd and Brazil seeking to impose themselves immediately.

Morocco are planning to stay tight and catch Brazil on the break by intercepting their midfield, and Brazil will be looking to dominate possession and stretch the Moroccan defence with their speedy front line.

There’s a sense of familiarity about this match, as Morocco vs Brazil was also the opening game for the 2022 World Cup and Brazil won that one 1–0.

Morocco are counting on the energy of being home to carry them through, and hoping to make the most of any transitions and set pieces they can get. However, with Brazil having so much experience at youth level, they are the favorite to win.

Safe calls

  • Brazil to Win or Draw: greater experience.
  • Over 1.5 Goals: Possible, with Brazil’s attacking setup.
  • Both Teams to Score: Possible, given Morocco’s pace on the break.
  • Score prediction: Brazil 2–1 Morocco
