Bodies of Palestinian Detainees Return to Gaza Bearing Signs of Torture

Photos suggest that these Palestinians suffered extensive abuse before their deaths, which were likely executions.

Rabat — Israel released today 15 bodies of dead Palestinian detainees, bringing the total to 135, but most of the bodies remain unidentified.

The bodies arrived with numbers instead of names, forcing grieving families to search desperately through photographs, hoping to recognize their missing relatives.

The returned bodies tell a grim story. Many show clear marks of torture, and some still have blindfolds and handcuffs attached.

The evidence suggests these Palestinians suffered abuse before their deaths and were possibly executed.

Palestinian detainees who Israel released alive as part of the Gaza ceasefire deal have confirmed the torture accounts. The ceasefire agreement has also led to the release of Israeli captives held in Gaza.

Reports of Israel torturing Palestinian detainees stretch back years, but accounts have surged since Israel launched its genocide on Gaza. Some Israeli politicians have publicly defended these practices.

The United Nations reports that at least 75 Palestinian detainees have died in Israeli jails since October 7, 2023.

One documented case stands out: Israeli guards gang-raped a Palestinian prisoner at the Sde Teiman detention facility last year.

Verified video footage captures Israeli prison guards positioning their shields to block the camera’s view before they attacked the victim. Israeli media reported the prisoner could no longer walk after the assault.

Munir al-Bursh, director-general of the Health Ministry, condemned the treatment on a social media post. “Crimes that cannot be hidden,” he said, adding, “this is how the bodies of Gaza’s prisoners were returned — blindfolded, bound like animals, and bearing signs of severe torture and burning.”

Meanwhile, since the ceasefire went into effect, Israel has killed 28 people. At the same time, Gazans are still looking forward to receiving food, water, and humanitarian aid.

However, the Israeli Occupation Forces are still subjecting large-scale aid deliveries – called for by the UN and the international community – to roadblocks.
