Rabat – Horoya AC and FAR Rabat drew 1–1 in the first leg of the CAF Champions League second-round qualifiers. The match took place at Stade Mamadou Konaté in Bamako, Mali, as Horoya’s home stadium in Guinea is not approved for CAF matches.
Horoya opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. Lansana Sylla finished a low cross from Yakhouba Barry after a quick move down the right. FAR Rabat equalized in the 62nd minute through Hamza Khabba, after a pass that broke through Horoya’s defense by Ayoub El Fahli.
FAR dominated possession (58%) and completed more passes, but struggled to break Horoya’s compact 4-4-2 shape. Mohamed Rabie Hrimat and El Fahli were central to FAR’s buildup, while Reda Slim was tightly marked and had limited impact.
Horoya relied on transitions and set pieces, with Sylla and Barry leading the attack.
Both teams had late half-chances, but neither goalkeeper was seriously tested after the goals. The match was physical, with five yellow cards, three to Horoya and two to FAR.
The draw leaves the tie wide open ahead of the second leg, scheduled for October 25 in Rabat. FAR Rabat will have home advantage, while Horoya must score away to advance.
The winner of this tie will qualify for the CAF Champions League group stage, joining Africa’s top clubs in the next round
