Rabat – Morocco’s U20 national team arrived tonight at Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca around 9 p.m., returning from Chile after clinching their first-ever FIFA U20 World Cup title, a landmark achievement that has sparked celebrations across the country.
The Atlas Cubs made history on Sunday night with a 2–0 victory over Argentina in Santiago, Chile, in a match that showcased tactical discipline, technical brilliance, and a collective spirit that resonated from the pitch to every Moroccan home.
The win has stirred national pride, with spontaneous celebrations erupting across Morocco.
Car horns, flags, and chants filled the streets of Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, and beyond as Moroccans united in joy over the historic feat.
Morocco sealed the title with two goals from Yassir Zabiri, who opened the scoring with a brilliant free-kick in the 12th minute before doubling the lead in the 28th, assisted by Othmane Maamma.
Despite Argentina dominating possession, Morocco’s solid defense prevailed as it denied every attempt to break through.
Zabiri was named man of the match and received the tournament’s Silver Ball, while Maamma earned the Golden Ball award for his standout performances throughout the competition.
Head coach Mohamed Ouahbi described the win as the culmination of years of steady progress under Morocco’s football development model.
“We feel immense happiness. We remember all the challenges we went through to reach this stage and break barriers,” he said. “We thank His Majesty the King for allowing us to live this moment and for his continuous encouragement of football development.”
Media worldwide have hailed Morocco’s tactical discipline, youth academy system, and collective spirit.
As the champions landed tonight, Morocco is celebrating a football victory and a new chapter in its sporting history.
