Rabat – Luis Enrique, head coach of Paris Saint-Germain, has lauded Morocco’s historic triumph in the 2025 U-20 World Cup, describing it as “great news” for the global football community.
In a recent interview, Enrique expressed his admiration for Morocco’s achievement and spoke about the nation’s growing prominence in international football.
Morocco secured the title with a 2-0 victory over Argentina in the final held on October 19 in Santiago, Chile. Yassir Zabiri was the standout performer, scoring both goals in the 12th and 29th minutes, leading Morocco to the historic U-20 World Cup title.
Asked whether he had discussed Morocco’s triumph with PSG star Achraf Hakimi, Enrique laughed as he said, “Yes, of course, we joked about it. It’s really very good news.”
Enrique noted that Morocco’s success is part of a broader trend of countries with significant potential emerging on the world stage. He stated that such victories are always positive for football, as they bring new energy and competition to the sport.
The upcoming World Cup, co-hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, further shows the nation’s growing influence in international football, according to the coach.
“I think it’s very nice for world football that there are countries that have always shown quality, because in the African Cup, they are always one of the favorites, but now they are clearly contenders to win upcoming Senior World Cups,” Enrique stated.
The Moroccan team’s journey to the title was marked by impressive performances, including victories over Spain and Brazil in the group stage, a penalty shootout win against France in the semifinals, and the final triumph over Argentina.
The team’s success has sparked wild celebrations across Morocco, with fans expressing overwhelming pride and joy in their country’s historic achievement.
