Rabat – A traffic accident occurred on Thursday in the rural commune of Zoumi, located in the province of Ouezzane, when a school bus carrying 25 students overturned on a local road.
According to Khadija Ben Abdessalam, the regional director of the Ministry of National Education, the accident left 20 students injured.
All students were swiftly transferred to Abu Al-Qasim Al-Zahraoui Hospital in Ouezzane for medical care.
Ben Abdessalam told SNRTnews that the majority of the students sustained minor injuries, including wounds, fractures, and cases of panic caused by the impact.
She confirmed that their health condition is stable and “not worrying.” The bus driver, however, suffered more serious fractures of varying severity.
Preliminary information from the driver indicates that the accident occurred as he attempted to avoid colliding with a cyclist, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
The bus subsequently overturned shortly after the students had left their educational institution following afternoon classes.
Local authorities and emergency services intervened immediately at the scene. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances of the incident and to assess road safety measures in the area.
