Rabat – Austria’s automotive supplier Hirschmann Automotive announced the opening of a new factory at the Oujda Technopole in Morocco’s Oriental region.
The new site spans 22,200 square meters, complementing the company’s existing facility in Kneitra. Austria invested MAD 180 million for the new site in Oujda, which is located in the “Cleantech” industrial acceleration zone.
The new facility is expected to create around 600 new direct jobs by the end of 2026.
The company’s goal is to contribute to the development of Hirschmann Automotive Morocco as well as to the economic growth of the Oriental region.
Khatib El Hebil, Wali of the Oriental region and governor of the Oujda-Angad prefecture, attended the inauguration ceremony, along with Mohamed Bouarourou, president of the Oriental Regional Council, and Mohamed Mbarki, Director of the Oriental Development Agency.
During the inauguration ceremony, El Hebil stated that the opening of the new industrial unit is part of the renewed investor confidence in the potential of the region. It also reflects the opportunities Oujda offers for investment.
“Oujda, a city of history and culture, is gradually transforming into a true hub for industrial, logistical, and technological development,” he said.
Morocco has been strengthening its position as a regional and global leader in the automotive sector.
Morocco is now producing over one million cards, with plans to raise capacity to 1.45 million, and eventually two million.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Minister of Industry Ryad Mezzour also emphasized the strengthening of the vehicle battery value chain, which attracts investors to produce batteries for over one million cars.
Morocco’s goal is to increase production to reach 107,000 electric vehicles by the end of 2025.
“We will be the only solution outside of China in the region capable of producing the entire battery value chain- from raw materials to finished cars,” Mezzour said.
