Agadir – The Turkish Aegean Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters’ Association has organized a sectoral trade mission to Casablanca from October 12 to 15, bringing together 10 Turkish companies from the construction materials, iron, and steel sectors, according to an announcement by the Istanbul Minerals and Metals Exporters’ Association (İMMİB).

The program includes business-to-business meetings with Moroccan companies, alongside visits to businesses and institutions. Organizers scheduled bilateral meetings between Turkish exporters and Moroccan importers for October 13, the visits’ program shows.

The delegation aims to identify commercial opportunities linked to Morocco’s infrastructure development and establish new partnerships in a market that Turkish exporters consider strategically important.

World Cup preparations create business opportunities

Morocco’s preparations to co-host the 2030 World Cup offer international suppliers opportunities to participate in construction and infrastructure projects, particularly in sectors that provide essential materials for buildings, transport facilities, and other infrastructure.

Fatih Uysal, deputy coordinator chairman of the Aegean Exporters’ Associations and chairman of the Aegean Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters’ Association, said Morocco’s planned infrastructure investments could create supply and cooperation opportunities for Turkish metals producers.

Uysal also pointed to Türkiye’s production capacity as a potential source of supply for Morocco’s growing needs, according to industry publication SteelRadar.

Morocco will co-host the tournament with Spain and Portugal, following FIFA’s confirmation of the three countries as hosts in 2024. The event gives Morocco an international platform to showcase its infrastructure, tourism sector, and capacity to attract major projects.

However, the commercial significance of the tournament extends beyond the matches themselves. Infrastructure projects and preparations for increased visitor numbers can create demand for construction materials, engineering services, transport facilities, accommodation, and other supporting industries.

For foreign suppliers, the trade mission offers a chance to establish direct contacts with Moroccan businesses and assess potential partnerships before demand linked to the tournament reaches its peak.

Morocco strengthens its position as a regional business hub

The Turkish delegation also reflects Morocco’s appeal beyond its World Cup preparations.

Uysal described Morocco as a target market because of its stable economic growth and strategic position in regional trade. He also pointed to the country’s role as a gateway to West Africa.

Morocco’s location gives international companies access to African markets while maintaining close commercial links with Europe. Businesses can use local partnerships to understand market conditions, identify customers, and develop distribution networks for regional expansion.

The delegation’s focus on iron, steel, and construction materials also highlights the importance of industrial supply chains as Morocco pursues infrastructure development. Suppliers that establish relationships with local importers and contractors may find opportunities beyond individual World Cup-related projects.
