Morocco is hosting the first ever U17 Women’s World Cup in Africa. For Infantino it is a pretty big deal. “Its the first Women’s World Cup on this continent to actually take place in Morocco” he said “ and — as luck would have it — its the first of five that will be held here in the next while”. He also made a point of getting in a good word for his hosts, saying “I have to thank President Fouzi Lekjaa again for all his help and lend a thought to his majesty, without whose efforts all this football goodness just wouldn’t be happening in this fantastic country.”
Morocco’s football rise, from the men’s 2022 World Cup semi-final, U20 World Cup and now hosting the U17 Women’s World Cup, is clear evidence of long term planning and structured development.
