Rabat — During his visit to Rabat in advance of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Final, FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that Morocco was becoming an increasing force in football, saying that Morocco’s recent success was thanks to a strong vision, investment and leadership.

Hours before the kick off of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final, FIFA President  Gianni Infantino said Morocco is clearly a place that “breathes football, lives football.”

Talking about how the country’s recent success and growing presence in football he said “The semi-final of the 2022 World Cup was not an accident, but the result of structured work, both at the men’s and women’s levels.”

He also gave a hearty congratulations to the U20 team for their World Cup triumph in Chile saying that “a well-deserved title, achieved at the end of a beautiful final against Argentina.” He  recalled Morocco’s recent triumph: ““and what a final against Argentina for it to end on — beautiful stuff.”

According to the FIFA President this win is big proof that “Moroccan football is going places and the investment into training is really paying off.”

Morocco is hosting the first ever U17 Women’s World Cup in Africa. For  Infantino  it is a pretty big deal. “Its the first Women’s World Cup on this continent to actually take place in Morocco” he said “ and — as luck would have it — its the first of five that will be held here in the next while”. He also made a point of getting in a good word for his hosts, saying “I have to thank President Fouzi Lekjaa again for all his help and lend a thought to his majesty, without whose efforts all this football goodness just wouldn’t be happening in this fantastic country.”

Morocco’s football rise, from the men’s 2022 World Cup semi-final, U20 World Cup and now hosting the U17 Women’s World Cup, is clear evidence of long term planning and structured development.
