Mohammedia – The Casablanca Stock Exchange slipped today, weighed down by broad-based losses as investors took profits across several major sectors after a mixed start to the month.
The benchmark MASI index dropped 1.06% to 19,064.05 points, while the MASI 20, which tracks the 20 most actively traded shares, lost 1.19% to 1,553.64 points. The MASI ESG, reflecting companies with the best environmental, social, and governance (ESG) scores as rated by Moody’s ESG Solutions, eased 0.8% to 1,289.85 points.
Smaller stocks also struggled, with the MASI Mid and Small Cap index down 0.73% to 1,854.02 points. On the international front, both the FTSE CSE Morocco 15 and the FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid indices fell 0.76% and 0.77%, following the same downward trend.
The day’s pullback was led by declines in several key sectors. Holdings tumbled 4.04%, Leisure and Hotels slipped 2.14%, and Engineering and Industrial Equipment shed 2.13%.
Still, a few defensive names offered some support. Finance and other financial activities gained 2.56%, Electricity advanced 1.06%, and Oil and Gas rose 0.64%, showing selective interest from institutional buyers looking for stability.
Among individual performers, Minière Touissit recorded the steepest drop of the day, sliding 4.79% to MAD 1,751 (USD 173.29). Delta Holding declined 4.07% to MAD 75.02 (USD 7.43), and Microdata lost 3.93% to MAD 806 (USD 79.80). S.M Monétique slipped 3.1% to MAD 591.1 (USD 58.53), while heavyweight Attijariwafa Bank ended down 2.74% to MAD 745 (USD 73.76).
On the brighter side, Salafin jumped 5.91% to MAD 609 (USD 60.30), leading the day’s gainers. Maroc Leasing followed with a 5.46% rise to MAD 379.8 (USD 37.60), while Promopharm S.A. climbed 5% to MAD 1,449 (USD 143.46). Involys gained 2.89% to MAD 242 (USD 23.96), and Rebab Company advanced 2.73% to MAD 113 (USD 11.19).
Turnover for the session totaled MAD 161.78 million (USD 16.02 million), mostly from the central equity market. Sodep–Marsa Maroc led trading with MAD 26.25 million (USD 2.60 million), followed by Attijariwafa Bank at MAD 26.05 million (USD 2.58 million) and TGCC with MAD 24.03 million (USD 2.38 million).
Total market capitalization remained robust at over MAD 1.008 trillion (USD 99.80 billion), despite the market’s overall downturn.
