Rabat – Yassir Zabiri has been one of Morocco’s standout performers at the 2025 FIFA U‑20 World Cup. The young forward spoke with beIN Sports about his rise, crediting discipline, trust, and his parents’ support for his success.

In the interview, the 20-year-old made it clear his long‑term ambition is to one day play for Barcelona.

Zabiri joined the Mohammed VI Football Academy at age 10. “I consider this place my second home. I came here when I was only 10 years old, still in fourth grade. They welcomed me warmly and taught us everything we needed, both in school and in training. We were like brothers, since we were far from our families.”

Playing in the U-20 World Cup was not easy. “It was difficult for me and for coach Mohamed Ouahbi, but I spoke with him and the club president. I thank them for allowing me to play, because they knew I would have a big chance. I relied on God, and with prayer and my parents’ blessings, I kept moving forward. Thank God, He was with me in this challenge.”

On his performances in big matches, he said: “Work, the trust of the coach, and all the players, and focus. There was understanding between us. I was a striker but also took on defensive duties.”

He defended coach Ouahbi after criticism: “We always told him he was the best and gave him our trust. He succeeded in removing jealousy from the group. He works hard, listens to us, and is very close to us. We hope to see him with top clubs or national teams because he deserves it.”

Looking ahead, Zabeiri said, “My dream is to play for Barcelona. I once attended one of their matches when Messi, Neymar, and Suárez were in the team. Now I will focus on my club, score as many goals as possible, and keep working on this dream (wearing Barcelona’s shirt), which is still far away.”

Zabiri  was Morocco’s standout at the 2025 U‑20 World Cup, scoring five goals in seven matches.

He delivered two decisive strikes in the final against Argentina, securing Morocco’s first-ever title at this level.

Beyond his goals, he worked hard defensively and showed versatility across the attack. His performances earned him recognition as one of the tournament’s breakout players and boosted his dream of reaching Europe and Barcelona.
