Marrakech – Transavia launched its first flight from Amsterdam to Rabat yesterday, signaling a major push into the Dutch airline’s rapidly expanding North African network.
The inaugural flight departed from Schiphol Airport in a ceremony attended by Transavia CEO Marcel de Nooijer and Moroccan Ambassador Mohamed Basri.
The new connection responds to increasing demand for travel between the Netherlands and Morocco for vacationers, family visits, and business travelers, according to an official announcement by the low-cost airline.
An emerging destination that combines modern and historical elements, Rabat complements Transavia’s existing Moroccan network.
“The launch of this connection between Amsterdam and Rabat beautifully reflects the close relationship between our countries,” said Mohamed Basri, Morocco’s Ambassador to the Netherlands. “It connects not only two capitals of friendly partner countries but also two societies with a rich shared history.”
The first flight carried over 200 participants to the ANVR Congress 2025, being held in Rabat this year under the theme “Connecting.” This congress brings together travel professionals from the Netherlands and abroad.
“Bookings to Morocco saw a clear surge last September. Dutch travelers were looking for autumn sun, and Morocco clearly benefited from that demand,” said ANVR Director Frank Radstake.
Marcel de Nooijer, Transavia CEO, expressed pride in adding Rabat to their network. “This connection symbolizes our role as a bridge builder between the Netherlands and Morocco. We’re seeing a strong and steadily growing demand for destinations in this country for various purposes,” he said.

The airline is deploying its new, quieter, and more fuel-efficient Airbus A321neo aircraft on this route to support sustainable growth. Transavia is also collaborating with the Moroccan Tourist Office (ONMT) to promote the country and its various destinations.
In the coming winter season, Transavia will operate nearly 55 weekly flights from the Netherlands and Belgium to Morocco.
The airline now serves nine Moroccan destinations: Al Hoceima, Agadir, Casablanca, Fez, Marrakech, Nador, Oujda, Tangier, and now Rabat. Amsterdam-Rabat flights will operate three times weekly – on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays – while the first flight to Oujda is scheduled for December 10.
Building on this momentum, its sister company, Transavia France, has also expanded its Morocco connections with year-round direct flights between Rennes-Marrakech and Brest-Marrakech.
The Rennes-Marrakech route operates twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays, while the Brest-Marrakech service, extended until summer 2026, runs on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
The airline has also launched a new direct route between Montpellier and Agadir, operating once weekly on Sundays throughout winter.
Emmanuel Brehmer, chairman of the Montpellier-Méditerranée Airport management board, noted that Transavia “is now the leading airline in terms of passengers and destinations from the French city.”
Transavia operates nearly 200 routes from France, particularly from Orly, Lyon, Nantes, and Montpellier, to destinations across Europe and the Mediterranean basin.
In 2024, the low-cost carrier of the Air France-KLM Group transported nearly 14 million passengers, positioning itself as the main low-cost airline operating from Paris.
