Rabat – Security services in Marrakech, working in close coordination with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), arrested five foreign nationals suspected of taking part in a criminal network specializing in hacking online betting applications.Â
The group allegedly seized large sums of money through illicit access to digital platforms and transferred the proceeds to personal accounts inside and outside Morocco.
Initial findings indicate that the suspects operated with a high level of technical skill, breaching the security systems of online betting applications before diverting funds through suspicious financial channels.Â
The scheme caused significant financial losses to both users and targeted digital platforms.
In a joint operation, judicial police and specialized cybercrime units dismantled the network and seized electronic devices and smartphones believed to have been used in the hacking activities.
The suspects were placed in police custody pending further investigation under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office.Â
Authorities aim to identify the full scope of the network, uncover potential accomplices, and determine the number of victims in Morocco and abroad.
The operation forms part of ongoing national efforts to combat cybercrime and strengthen the ability of security services to counter digital fraud schemes, particularly those targeting financial platforms and commercial applications.
