Rabat – In preparation for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and head of the local organizing committee, held a meeting on Tuesday, December 2, with African ambassadors accredited in Rabat.
The gathering took place at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmora, a key facility for Moroccan football development.
During the meeting, Lekjaa presented a detailed update on Morocco’s preparations for hosting the tournament.
He stressed that Morocco is approaching AFCON 2025 with a broad vision inspired by the directives of King Mohammed VI, focusing on strengthening African unity and cooperation.
According to Lekjaa, the success of the competition will not only be a national achievement but also a collective victory for the entire continent.
The ambassadors expressed satisfaction with the progress made, praising the coordination between Moroccan institutions and the speed with which infrastructure and logistics are being prepared.
They stressed Morocco’s ability to provide strong guarantees for the smooth organization of the event, pointing to modern stadiums, improved transport networks, and hospitality facilities ready to welcome teams and fans.
To reinforce collaboration, Lekjaa announced the creation of a communication and coordination unit linking the organizing committee with African diplomatic missions.
This unit will help address logistical challenges, including travel arrangements, accommodation, and other services required by participating teams.
Morocco has invested heavily in sports infrastructure in recent years, with venues in Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier, Agadir, Marrakech, and Fez set to host matches.
The country previously staged major tournaments such as the FIFA Club World Cup and the African Nations Championship. These experiences have strengthened its reputation as a reliable host.
AFCON 2025, scheduled from December 21 to January 18, will be the first edition held in Morocco since 1988.
The tournament is expected to attract millions of viewers across Africa and beyond, while boosting tourism and showcasing Morocco’s role as a hub for continental football.
Lekjaa concluded the meeting by reaffirming Morocco’s commitment to ensuring the success of AFCON 2025, stressing that the competition belongs to all of Africa and will reflect the ambitions of the continent.
