Rabat – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) believes the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco is about to be a turning point for African football, and we’re just five short days away from seeing it all unfold.
Speaking in Rabat on Tuesday, CAF Secretary General Véron Mosengo-Omba said the competition from December 21 to January 18 is all set to be the best edition in AFCON history.
Mosengo-Omba shared his thoughts during a press conference where they were running through Morocco’s final preparations for hosting the event. He described the AFCON as a global football showcase and commented on the efforts that have gone into planning and organizing, saying it’s looking like it’s going to deliver an edition that will far outdo anything we’ve seen before.
He made these comments just weeks after CAF President Patrice Motsepe gave a similar statement.
Morocco preparations raise expectations for CAN 2025
According to the CAF Secretary General, the tournament is all set to break some records, thanks in large part to the sheer scale of the preparations and the high standards of organization that Morocco has managed to put in place. He was keen on the country’s world-class facilities saying it’s what give him the confidence the competition will be a huge success.
Mosengo-Omba also pointed out the amount of passion the tournament has generated and the level of enthusiasm you just can’t compare to any other AFON event. He mentioned how over one million tickets have already been sold, a figure that pretty much sums up the excitement among fans.
