Rabat – Several provincial education authorities in Morocco’s Casablanca-Settat region have announced the temporary suspension of classes at public and private schools across multiple municipalities due to adverse weather conditions.

Some of the provincial directorates under the Regional Academy of Education and Training announced the suspension, which takes effect starting Tuesday in Settat, Berrechid, El Jadida, as well as in Sidi Bennour and Nouaceur.

These measures are part of the efforts seeking to ensure the safety of students and administrative staff amid heavy rainfall and strong winds.

The regional academy announced a series of measures to tackle the situation, including local, regional, and provincial monitoring units to closely track the situation and take the necessary measures.

The Hassan I University in Settat also announced the precautionary suspension of classes at all affiliated university institutions due to the weather disturbances.

On Monday, the provincial directorate of the Ministry of National Education in Safi announced the suspension of classes across all educational institutions in the province for three days due to adverse weather conditions.

In a statement, the directorate said the decision was taken in coordination with provincial authorities following heavy thunderstorms and torrential rainfall that affected Safi.

Classes will be suspended on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The announcement came following a devastating flood that claimed the lives of at least 37 people in Safi. The region witnessed 60 millimeters of rainfall on Sunday within a short period of time.

In addition to human losses, the floods also caused devastating material and logistics damage.
