Rabat – The General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR) announced the launch of the “PRIS-AFCON” program to accompany Morocco’s hosting of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), aimed at inmates across the country’s penitentiary institutions.
According to a statement by the DGAPR, the initiative aligns with the strategic vision of enhancing the social and human dimension of prisons.
As part of the program, a mini African football tournament will bring together 150 African inmates representing 15 different nationalities.
The tournament will take place on Thursday, December 25, at the Tamsna local prison, which will also host the opening and closing ceremonies of the program.
The program further includes the broadcast of AFCON matches across all inmate housing units, alongside interactive analytical sessions with former players, journalists, and sports experts.
Civil society associations will also participate, providing additional workshops and complementary activities.
In addition to Tamsna, other facilities, such as Oudaya Prison in Marrakech, Tangier 2 Prison, Ras El Ma Prison in Fez, the Reform and Rehabilitation Center in Casablanca, and Ait Melloul Prison in Agadir, will host football matches in coordination with local clubs.
These events will be complemented by various workshops and activities, designed to foster values of coexistence, sportsmanship, and shared African identity.
The DGAPR emphasized that the initiative reflects its “firm commitment to involving inmates in national and continental dynamics, enabling them to participate positively in national and African events, supporting rehabilitation and reintegration, and opening prisons to the wider community.”
Morocco is hosting the 2025 AFCON, bringing together the continent’s top football teams in a celebration of sport and competition.
Stadiums across the country have been buzzing with fans eager to witness the matches, while cities hosting games have embraced the event with a festive atmosphere.
