Marrakech – Lacking playing time at Fiorentina under Paolo Vanoli, Amir Richardson will be one of the names to watch during the winter transfer window in January.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Ligue 1 side OGC Nice are among several clubs interested in acquiring the 23-year-old midfielder’s services in January.

Though he’s never featured professionally for Nice, Richardson spent the majority of his youth career within The Eagles’ academy, and could be set for a return to the Côte d’Azur club.  He would be joining fellow Moroccan international Sofiane Diop, who’s in his fourth season with The Eagles.

A highly touted holding midfield prospect for his combination of size, agility, and technical ability, Richardson shone most during Morocco’s bronze-medal-winning run at the 2024 Olympics, earning a €9m move to Serie A at Fiorentina.

After 39 appearances in his first campaign with I Viola under Raffaelle Palladino, Richardson was successively sidelined by coaching appointments Stefano Pioli and Vanoli amid a nightmare Fiorentina season. The club currently sits at the very bottom of the Serie A standings, having only collected nine points in 16 matches.

Despite suffering no reported injuries or other fitness issues, Richardson has had a challenging season in the Italian league. The youngster did not make his debut this season until November 30, playing 11 minutes in Fiorentina’s 2-0 defeat to Atalanta. He has since featured in three other matches for the Italian side, including two starts in the UEFA Conference League.

With the 2026 World Cup in sight, Richardson could make a return to Regragui’s plans if he regains game fitness and rhythm. Whether that will be with Fiorentina, Nice, or with another suitor club will be decided over the next few weeks.

The Ligue 1 winter transfer window will open on December 31 and close on February 2, 2026.
