Rabat – Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport has recorded an exceptional performance this week, surpassing the symbolic threshold of 11 million passengers for the first time.
This passenger boom was fueled by the unprecedented momentum of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Passenger traffic increased from 10.5 million in 2024 to 11.5 million in 2025, marking a 9.3% rise.
The surge is largely attributed to the influx of football fans, official delegations, and international visitors attending AFCON 2025, alongside increased flight frequencies.
The airport now accounts for 31% of total passenger traffic across the country’s airports, and established Mohammed V International as Morocco’s leading air gateway.
These developments are part of the broader “Airports 2030” strategy, which aims to support the growth of passenger air traffic by expanding capacity, improving travel experiences, and modernizing infrastructure.
Mohammed V Airport aims to welcome 12.5 million passengers by 2026 and more than 20 million by 2030.
Hosting the 2025 AFCON positions Morocco at the center of continental football by providing a boost to the country’s economy and tourism sector.
The influx of fans, teams, and international delegations generates increased demand for hotels, restaurants, transport, and local services, which in turn generates revenue opportunities across multiple industries.
AFCON 2025 will also help in improving Morocco’s global visibility as a sports and travel destination, encourage infrastructure investments, and strengthen the country’s capacity to host large-scale international events.
