Moroccan travelers, supporters from other African countries, and airport staff all shared the joyful moment.

Rabat – Travelers and football fans gathered in large numbers at airport fan zones to watch AFCON games and celebrate victories, notably the Atlas Lions’ successful qualification for the second round of the tournament.

The National Airports Authority (ONDA) reported that these spaces were filled with excitement, cheering, and a sense of national pride as travelers and supporters watched the match together.

“The CAN 2025 is in full swing in Morocco, and the Atlas Lions have passed the first round with a strong performance. Their victory, which ensures qualification for the second round, was celebrated with special intensity in the airport fan zones,” ONDA said in a statement.

Moroccan travelers, supporters from other African countries, and airport staff all shared the joyful moment. Halls and terminals, usually busy with passengers and departures, were transformed into lively celebration areas, with applause, chants, and smiles marking the team’s success, according to ONDA.

It added that these airport fan zones are part of a broader effort to engage fans nationwide.

Cities across Morocco, including Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakesh, and Fez, as well as smaller cities, have also hosted fan zones where locals and visitors can watch the matches together. The fan zones also include musical performances by Moroccan artists.

The Atlas Lions will now face Tanzania in their next match, a crucial game in the Round of 16.

After leading Group A with seven points, fans across the country are preparing to cheer on the team, both in stadiums and in public viewing areas. The team defeated 2-0 Comoros in the AFCON opener, to later draw 1-1 with Mali and beat 3-0 Zambia to seal their qualification.
