Safi – Moroccan striker Tawfik Bentayeb is closing in on a move to Belgian club Anderlecht from Union Touarga, with only a work permit and a medical left to settle, according to Belgian and French media.
Bentayeb is expected in Belgium this week to complete the medical. He would then sign a four-year contract running until 2030.
Belgian outlet Voetbalkrant put the fee at €4 million (MAD 45 million) plus bonuses, a total Foot Mercato reported could reach €4.5 million (MAD 50 million). Union Touarga would keep 20% of any future sale.
The move is largely the work of Antoine Sibierski. Anderlecht’s sporting director brought Bentayeb to Troyes on loan late in the 2025 summer window and now sees him as the club’s new center forward.
Anderlecht accelerated their pursuit after losing 1-0 at SK Beveren on August 17, a result that exposed how badly they needed a striker. Union Saint-Gilloise and Standard de Liège had also chased the Moroccan.
Bentayeb, 24, finished last season as the top scorer in Ligue 2, France’s second division, scoring 18 goals on loan at Troyes. Transfermarkt values him at €8 million (MAD 90 million).
For now, Bentayeb remains a Union Touarga player. A move to a competitive European league would strengthen his case for a Morocco call-up, the kind of stage that has taken several of his compatriots into Europe’s bigger leagues.
