Agadir – The bodies of a man in his sixties, and his 17-year-old daughter were recovered Tuesday morning from the Imdad wadi, near the commune of Sidi Ouaaziz in the Oulad Berhil district, after they were swept away by flash floods in Taroudant province.
The victims had been reported missing on Monday following a sudden and dangerous rise in water levels caused by heavy rainfall, prompting several hours of intensive search operations.
According to converging reports, the father had earlier crossed the wadi by motorcycle to pick up his daughter, a second-year baccalaureate student at Dakhla High School. However, the water level rose abruptly on their way back, catching them off guard. They became trapped before being swept away by the powerful current.
In response to intense rainfall and flash floods across Taroudant province, authorities have stepped up rainwater drainage and emergency operations to manage rising water levels and road flooding. The heavy rains have caused significant water accumulation on several key routes, posing risks to residents and motorists.
National Road No. 10 in the municipality of Machraa El Aïn was temporarily closed after floodwaters from the El Bayadh wadi overflowed, prompting swift action to restore traffic and secure the area.
Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution during periods of heavy rainfall, particularly near riverbeds and flood-prone areas, as weather disturbances continue to affect the region.
