Rabat – Senegal has reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its southern provinces in Western Sahara.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita received today in Rabat the President of the National Assembly of Senegal, El Malick Ndiaye.
In a press statement following the meeting, Ndiaye reaffirmed his country’s consistent support for Morocco’s sovereignty and the Moroccan Autonomy Plan.
He also congratulated Morocco on the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797 on Western Sahara.
The UN Security Council adopted the resolution on October 31, 2025, recognizing the Autonomy Plan as a genuine political solution to end the dispute over Western Sahara.
The resolution said that autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty “could represent a most feasible outcome” and encourages the parties to submit ideas to support a final mutually-acceptable solution.
Senegal also reiterated its continued support for the resolution and UN-led political process to end the dispute over Western Sahara.
Beyond the dispute, Ndiaye commended Morocco’s dedicated efforts, including the royal initiative for Atlantic Africa, aiming to strengthen the stability and shared prosperity in the region.
Senegal is preparing a second session in Dakar to launch the operationalization of the process, involving 28 countries along the Atlantic.
The initiative aims to assist African countries in need of access to port and airport infrastructure.
Bourita and his counterpart also discussed cooperation and bilateral ties between the two countries, recalling the importance of the upcoming visit of the Senegalese Prime Minister to Morocco as part of the 15th High Joint Commission.
