Rabat – During an address to the members of the National Council of the RNI party in Rabat on Saturday, party president Aziz Akhannouch paid tribute to the Moroccan national football team for their outstanding performance against Cameroon in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
“Yesterday, we experienced immense joy following the qualification of Morocco’s national team to the semifinals of AFCON,” Akhannouch said at the opening of the session. “Thank you and congratulations for this remarkable achievement,” he added, emphasizing the significance of the victory, which marks Morocco’s first appearance in the semifinals since 2004.
The national team secured their place in the semifinals with a commanding performance against the Lions of Cameroon, demonstrating skill, discipline, and resilience on the pitch. The match not only reinforced confidence in coach Walid Regragui and his players but also showcased Morocco’s growing strength in African football.
The milestone was celebrated across the country, with fans gathering in stadiums, fan zones, and public spaces to share in the triumph. Among those expressing their joy was the head of government, highlighting the match’s national significance and the pride it brought to Moroccans everywhere.
Akhannouch’s remarks indicate the broader cultural and social impact of football in Morocco, where the national team’s success continues to unite citizens and inspire optimism as the Atlas Lions edge closer to a potential first continental title in half a century.
