Rabat – Bahrain has renewed its clear and firm support for Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara and for the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative as a realistic solution to the dispute.
The Gulf country reaffirmed this position in a joint statement issued during the official visit of the President of Morocco’s House of Councillors, Mohamed Ould Errachid, to Bahrain from 12 to 16 January. The visit took place at the invitation of the Speaker of Bahrain’s Shura Council, Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh.
According to a statement from the House of Councillors, Bahrain welcomed United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, adopted on 31 October 2025, describing it as an important step toward reaching a realistic and lasting solution to the Western Sahara issue. The adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797 last October further confirmed the international community’s support for a political solution based on realism, compromise, and Morocco’s initiative.
The joint statement said the visit reflects the strong brotherly relations between the two countries, in line with the guidance of King Mohammed VI and King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
Discussions during the visit focused on the depth of historical ties between the two countries, based on solidarity, mutual respect, and continuous coordination on issues of common interest.
