Rabat – Moroccan international Sofiane Boufal has signed with Le Havre AC, returning to Ligue 1 after leaving Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise.
The 32-year-old midfielder brings experience from top European leagues and the Moroccan national team, with his contract running through the 2025-2026 season.
Sofiane Boufal began his professional journey in France with Angers SCO, where his skill and creativity quickly drew attention. He later moved to Lille OSC, making himself one of Ligue 1’s most exciting attacking players.
His performances earned him a transfer to Southampton in the English Premier League, where he played from 2016 to 2020.
Boufal also spent time in Spain with Celta Vigo before returning to Angers and later joining Al-Rayyan in Qatar. Most recently, he played for Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium.
Boufal has been a consistent figure for the Moroccan national team, earning 46 caps to date.
He played a key role in Morocco’s run at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, starting in seven matches as the Atlas Lions reached the semifinals, the first African team to do so.
His dribbling ability and vision made him one of Morocco’s standout performers during the tournament.
Le Havre, currently fighting to secure its place in Ligue 1, sees Boufal as a major boost to its attack. His technical flair, creativity, and experience across France, England, Spain, and Belgium give the team a versatile option in midfield and on the wings.
According to French outlet L’Équipe, Boufal’s deal runs until June 2026, signaling the club’s long-term confidence in his impact.
Boufal’s arrival is more than just a transfer; it is a return to familiar territory. With 99 Ligue 1 appearances already under his belt, he knows the rhythm of French football well.
