Rabat – The Attorney General at the Rabat Court of Appeal dismissed today claims circulating online alleging that the death of a Malian journalist in Rabat was suspicious or linked to his support for an Arab team during AFCON.
An investigation confirmed that Sumare Mohamed Cheick Tidiane died of natural causes. The results specifically concluded that the freelance journalist, who was found at his residence on January 14, died of pulmonary embolism related to high blood pressure.
He showed no signs of violence after an autopsy check, according to the attorney general’s statement.
The press release stressed that a private medical team alerted the police on January 14 to his death in his residence in Rabat.

The public prosecutor ordered a judicial investigation, noting that members of the judicial police, accompanied by scientific and technical police service,s rushed to the deceased’s apartment in Rabat.
Upon arrival at his residence, police found the Malian consul present along with one of the deceased’s friends, also a Malian journalist who came to cover AFCON.
“The friend stated he had received a text message from the deceased alerting him to the seriousness of his health condition,” the statement said.
The friend reported he found the door locked from the inside and called for an ambulance.” The paramedics forced open the apartment door and discovered the deceased’s body in the bedroom,” the statement said.
All of the journalist’s belongings were found near the body.
Several claims and fake news have been dismissed by the police recently, including the alleged death of a Senegalese supporter and a Moroccan stadium staff member.
