Rabat – Sound Energy announced today that it has made new progress in its gas operations in eastern Morocco, particularly at the Tendrara gas development, while also securing an extension for its Anoual exploration permits.
The company said that they have completed commissioning work on key parts of the gas gathering system at the Tendrara Phase I project. According to Sound Energy, two wells were successfully flowed and tested as part of the commissioning process.
The wells are located about two kilometers apart and are connected through a system that includes flowlines, valves, heat exchangers, liquid separation units, and flares.
The testing marks the completion of a major section of surface facilities needed for early gas production at the site, which is operated by Mana Energy Ltd, according to the statement.
Sound Energy also said preparations are underway to commission gas-fired power generation at Tendrara
In the coming weeks, natural gas produced at the site is expected to be used to power the gas engines, which could reduce reliance on diesel fuel, lower operating costs, and cut direct emissions.
The company also announced that Moroccan authorities have approved an extension of the Anoual Exploration Permits, which cover a large area in eastern Morocco.
Under the revised terms, the permits are being extended until September 7, 2028. The retained permit area now covers 5,031 square kilometers, following the required relinquishment of part of the original acreage.
The updated work program includes a firm commitment to drill one exploration well targeting Triassic formations. If the well is successful, the operator may carry out additional seismic work and drill a second exploration well. Sound Energy holds a 27.5% non-operating interest in the permits, alongside Morocco’s hydrocarbons agency ONHYM and operator Mana Energy.
The company said its share of the drilling costs for the planned M5 exploration well will be capped at $2.57 million, with the drilling to be carried out by Managem S.A.
Sound Energy also noted that it continues to assess its financing needs for 2026 and is reviewing options to secure short-term funding ahead of first gas production.
Chief Executive Officer Majid Shafiq said the latest developments represent important steps toward early gas production at Tendrara and provide additional time to advance exploration activities at Anoual.
