More than 100 LEGO robots will compete on game tables designed to look like archaeological sites, while teams will present research projects combining history, science, and engineering.

Rabat – The national final of the FIRST LEGO League Morocco for the 2025-2026 season will take place this weekend at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) campus in Benguerir.

Organized by LOOP For Science & Technology and held under the supervision of the Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, the event will bring together more than 1,200 young participants aged nine to 16 from across Morocco.

UM6P is hosting the national final for the third year in a row, offering students a unique experience inside one of Africa’s leading technology universities, the organizers said in a press release.

This year’s competition is built around the theme “UNEARTHED,” which focuses on archaeology and technology. Since August, teams have been working on robots and innovation projects that show how modern technology can help explore, study, and protect historical heritage.

The competition includes two main challenges. In the Robot Game, student-built LEGO robots must complete missions that simulate archaeological excavations and artifact preservation. And in the Innovation Project, teams present original technological solutions designed to support archaeological research or protect cultural heritage sites.

After regional qualifiers held on January 17 and 18, the national final, taking place on Saturday and Sunday, marks the last stage of the competition in Morocco. At the end of the event, five teams will be selected to represent Morocco at international FIRST LEGO League championships.

Speaking about the event, Laila Berchane, President of LOOP For Science & Technology, said the competition supports Morocco’s digital future. “By preparing young people for the jobs of tomorrow, this event directly supports the Digital Morocco 2030 strategy. We are training the talents who will lead the country’s digital transformation,” she said.
