Rabat – In a series of ongoing developments tied to the Epstein Files, Los Angeles 2028 Olympics chief Casey Wasserman released a statement Sunday night apologizing for decades-old communications with convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell. Wasserman and Maxwell’s flirty emails from 2003 were part of millions of files published by the United States Department of Justice on Friday.

Wasserman, who was married at the time, wrote in one scandalous email to Maxwell: “I think of you all the time… So what do I have to do to see you in a tight leather outfit?”

In addition to Wasserman’s role as the 2028 Olympics chief, he founded his own sports and entertainment company, “Wasserman, in 2002, and serves as a trustee on the Clinton Foundation.

Maxwell is serving a 20-year prison sentence for charges including sex trafficking underage girls in cooperation with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Epstein died in prison in 2019 before his trial.

“I deeply regret my correspondence with Ghislaine Maxwell,” Wasserman said in his Sunday statement, expanding: “I am terribly sorry for having any association with either of them.”

International Olympic Committee response

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) declined to comment on the issue. Kirsty Coventry, IOC President, said today in a press conference approaching Milano-Cortina Olympics that the committee had “nothing further to add” to Wasserman’s statement but that “anything that is distracting from these Games is sad.”

“What is keeping my faith alive is when the opening ceremony happens … suddenly the world remembers ‌the magic and spirit the Games have,” Coventry expressed.

The unraveling web of Epstein connections

Wasserman acknowledged a humanitarian trip he took as part of the Clinton Foundation in 2002 on the Epstein Plane while stating that he “never had a personal or business relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.”

While the files do not indicate any criminality on Wasserman’s part, the newest files reignite questions regarding the web of individuals associated with Epstein.

Former US President Bill Clinton and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, are summoned to testify before the congressional committee investigating the federal government’s handling of the Epstein files.

The newest files feature photographs with Clinton and Epstein from the 1990s and early 2000s. Clinton denies any knowledge of Jeffrey Epstein’s sex offending and has never faced accusations from Epstein’s trafficking survivors.

The documents unveiled on Friday come six weeks after the deadline US President Donald Trump set for releasing all Epstein-related documents to the public. Trump is mentioned in at least 4,500 documents but claims his friendship with Epstein ended years ago and denies knowledge of any sex crimes. There is no official evidence of wrongdoing in the currently released records.

Despite the apparent final release of the Epstein files, some argue too many documents are still being withheld without a legitimate explanation. Co-sponsors of the Epstein Files Transparency Act, Thomas Massie, Republican, and Ro Khanna, Democrat, criticized the incomplete release and demanded the release of un-redacted files.

“The DOJ said it identified over 6 million potentially responsive pages but is releasing only about 3.5 million after review and redactions. This raises questions as to why the rest are being withhel.d” Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna, co-author of the Epstein Files Transparency Act, said in a statement, adding that “failing to release these files only shields the powerful individuals who were involved and hurts the public’s trust in our institutions.”
